    What Is a CalDAV Account?

    CalDAV is a protocol for sharing calendars that was proposed by Apple. Similar to the CardDAV protocol, CalDAV makes use of the WebDAV protocol to share calendar data in the iCalendar format. 

    This protocol allows multiple devices and apps to access your calendar data, simplifies cooperative planning, and gives you greater control over data sharing settings. 

    The CalDAV protocol relies on the internet to work and requires data to be stored on a central server. Thanks to this, apps and devices can connect to the server independently and synchronize data. 

    How Do I Sync the Calendar With My Mac Using CalDAV?

    To sync your calendar with your computer running a MacOS or other Apple device, you’ll need to add your account type to your Mac calendar following the steps we outlined earlier. 

    By default, the calendar will sync with your Mac every 15 minutes, but if you’d like to change the frequency, follow the steps below: 

    1. Launch your Apple Calendar
    2. In the top toolbar, click Calendar > Preferences
    3. Click on the Accounts tab.
    4. In the accounts pane on the left, click on the account you want to synchronize.
    5. Under Account Information, locate Refresh settings.
    6. Choose the Refresh frequency from the dropdown menu or choose Manually to manually perform a CalDAV sync of your calendar data. 

    How Do I Set Up a CalDAV Account Password?

    So, how do you create a CalDAV account password? We can guide you. 

    Your CalDAV password is the same password for the account whose calendar is being synced to your Mac computer. You can get this information from your calendar provider or your IT department. 

    What Is My CalDAV Server Information?

    To configure your CalDAV account on your Mac, you’ll need your server address, email address, and email password. The server address must be mail.fastmetrics.com. If you have trouble with your email administrator or your password, contact your IT department for help obtaining it.

    How Do I Create a CalDAV Account?

    Your CalDAV account will be created for you by your IT department, and it will use the same email address and password as your company email account. You’ll then need to set it up on your Mac by launching your built-in Calendar app and following the previously described steps. 

    How Do I Synchronize and Set Up a CalDAV Account on Mac Outlook?

    Currently, Outlook for Mac doesn’t support the CalDAV or the CardDAV protocol. Therefore, you will need to use the built-in Calendar application to sync and set up a CalDAV account on Mac

    However, you can sync an iCal server with Outlook for Mac. You’ll need to subscribe to the iCloud calendar and add it to Outlook Web Access. Once you’ve done that, it will instantly act as a CalDAV synchronizer with Outlook for Mac. Here’s how: 

    1. First, log in to your iCloud account using your preferred browser.
    2. Go to the Calendar section and tap the Share icon next to the calendar you want to sync with Outlook.
    3. Tick the box next to Public Calendar and then Copy the generated link.
    4. Open a new tab in your browser and go to Outlook Web Access.
    5. Click on the Calendar icon in the navigation pane on the left.
    6. Click Add Calendar and then tap From Internet.
    7. Paste the link you copied from iCloud. Enter a name for your CalDAV Calendar and choose whether the calendar will be added to My Calendars or Other Calendars
    8. When you’re done, click the Import button. The calendar will then be visible in your Calendars list, and it will show up in the calendar section in Outlook for Mac.

    CardDAV is an open internet protocol that’s used to sync contact data on your phone. CardDAV is based on the WebDAV protocol and uses vCard format to sync contact information.     How To Reset CardDAV Password

    Your CardDAV account password is the same password that you use for your email account. If you get a message stating that your CardDAV password is incorrect, you may need to reset it. To do this, all you have to do is reset your email password. Then try logging in again with the correct password. It should now work.

    Setting up a CardDAV account on your iPhone isn’t complicated, but there are specific setup directions you need to follow. 

    Step 1: Go to Settings > Contacts. Then click on Accounts > Add Account. On the screen that appears, click Other

    Step 2: Under Contacts, click Add CardDAV Account. Enter your server address information: mail.fastmetrics.com:80. Don’t leave out the 80 at the end. Otherwise, you might run into errors, and the CardDAV sync won’t happen properly. 

    Step 3: Enter your email username by entering your account name and then your domain name in the parenthesis. For example, if your email account is example@example.com, you’d enter example(example.com)

    Step 4: Enter your email password and enter a description of the account so you can easily recognize it. 

    Step 5: Tap Next, and your accounts will appear in your contacts app along with all the other contacts you have saved on your iPhone.

    How To Fix “CardDAV Account Verification Failed”

    If you’re running into verification issues or receive this warning during setup, you can try the following steps.

    1. Go through the settings and make sure you input all information and enter the password for the CardDAV account properly.
    2. Delete the account and try adding it again from scratch to see if that remedies the problem.
    3. Reset your email account password.
    4. Delete and re-add the account with the new password.
    5. Ensure the account you’re trying to add doesn’t have two-factor authentication enabled.

    This is a common issue that occurs if you have another account set up as the default account for storing webmail contacts on your iPhone.     By finding your Outlook .PST file location, you can then save the file away from your primary drive, to free up data space on your computer.     Step 1: Right click in your Outlook email account in the top left column, under ‘Mail Folders’.

    WAV Files For Voicemail & Auto Attendant Greetings

    Note: these WAV file recording instructions are for the now outdated version Windows XP. However, these are highly similar for newer versions of Windows as well. 

    This guide explains how to create WAV files to be used for your voicemail or auto attendant greeting. Access to record these greetings is often already setup with your business phone system. When you are not available to answer your phone or busy, we offer our business clients a few different options for inbound calls.

    Your Fastmetrics business phone service can be configured to;

    1. Send calls directly to your voicemail. Your pre-recorded greeting, (.WAV file) will be played.
    2. Be forwarded to your cell or any another number of your choosing. (Call forwarding).
    3. Be redirected to your auto attendant. Auto attendant greetings can be automated or personalized with WAV files.

    Please note that the size limit for your auto attendant greeting is 1MB. Anything larger than this, will not work. For options 1 and 2 above, inbound phone calls will be played a pre-recorded message, such as WAV files, which we explain how to record below;

    How To Make A WAV File In The Correct Format

    Step 1: Launch your sound recorder. Select Start > Programs > Accessories > Entertainment > Sound Recorder.

    Note: It is possible that your sound recorder is located in a different location, or that your default sound recorder is a different product. The required WAV format remains the same, for whichever sound recording program you use to record.

    Use the format for your greetings below. Follow the instructions for your specific sound recording product.

    Step 2: Set sound recorder properties. The first thing we will do is establish the properties for the sound recorder, to ensure your .wav file is in the correct format. Later, when we save the sound file after recording, these properties will be used for the saved wav.

    Step 3: Select Properties from the File menu. Create wav File 2

    Step 5: Settings: Leave the .wav file Format: setting as PCM. Confirm that the Sound Selection Attributes are; 8.000 kHz, 16 Bit, Mono, 15 kb/sec. Otherwise, select that setting from the drop down list. Then click Save As.

    The sound properties for the .WAV file format have now been saved into a profile named “Fastmetrics”. This profile is internal to the sound recorder program. After recording your greeting, we will save a sound file, using this properties profile to specify the settings for the saved .wav file.

    Step 9: Record your greeting. This process can be repeated as many times as you like.

    The sound recorder will store your recording and when you are satisfied with that greeting, you can save the current recording to a sound file. Create wav File 8 Create wav File 9 Create wav File 10

    Step 10: Select Save As from the File menu. Create wav File 11

    Step 11: Enter the name you will be giving the .wav file. Then click the Change button. Create wav File 12

    Step 14: Click the Save button. You are finished with the recording process.     The following guide shows step by step how to configure Microsoft Outlook 2003 email with either POP3, IMAP or HTTP settings.

    Step 1: Open Microsoft Outlook and select E-mail Accounts… from the Tools drop down menu from within the Outlook email program.

    Step 3: Select the type of server that you will be using. Either POP3, IMAP or HTTP. Then click Next.

    Note: If you wish to configure using the MAPI connector, please see the article; ‘Setup Outlook with MAPI‘. Cancel in this dialog now, there is a different setup process required for MAPI email.

    • Your Name: your first and last name
    • E-mail Address: the full email address for the account you are setting up now. Example: john@yourdomain.com
    • User Name: the same address entered for E-mail Address field

    How To Set Up MS Outlook 2007 Out Of Office Replies

    These Out of Office instructions are for Microsoft Outlook 2007, using our MAPI connector. MAPI must have been installed first, for these instructions to work. The process is similar for other versions, such as Outlook 2010. The difference is in how the Vacation Message settings are accessed. (Apart from that, instructions are exactly the same). Note: only one auto reply vacation message will be sent per person. A list of people that have received an out of office message is maintained inside the Outlook email program. For this reason, we recommend clearing this list each time the Vacation Message feature is activated.

    Step 1: Launch Microsoft Outlook 2007. Open Microsoft Outlook 2007 and make sure your account folders are highlighted. In some cases, Outlook may have more than one account setup on your computer.

    Step 2: Click on the Tools in top main menu. This will open a drop down menu. 

    Step 3: Click on CommuniGate Pro Server.

    Step 4: Click on Vacation Message from the CommuniGate Pro Server sub menu.

    Step 5: Check the box which says ‘Enable Vacation Message’. You can disable the Vacation Message by deselecting the ‘Enable Vacation Message’ option, or by deleting the message in the text box under the ‘Ends’ date option.

    Step 7: Add in the message you wish to display for your out of office auto reply. Example; “I am out of office and unable to answer your email until the 9th of July. I can be contacted on my cell for any urgent requests”.

    Step 8: Press OK.

    Your Outlook 2007 program will now send automatic out of office replies to all incoming emails to your account. The person sending incoming email to you will receive the message you entered in the Vacation Message text box. This will continue until you deactivate your out of office vacation message, or until the date specified in the date settings expires.

    How do I setup my email on my iPad? It’s a simple and quick process. Below we have provided the 5 steps necessary to setup your iPad email, using Microsoft Exchange as the default option.

    Why Microsoft Exchange? We work with many clients who use Microsoft Outlook with our business hosted email service, so this post serves as a useful guide for them. For other email accounts, such as Gmail or Yahoo, iPad email setup instructions are highly similar.

    Step 1: Tap the Settings icon from the home screen, then Mail, Contacts, Calendars. Mail, Contacts, Calendars will be highlighted in blue as shown below. Then tap Add Account.

    Note: The below options will also be displayed if you tap the blue and white Mail icon from the home screen of your iPad, without having an email account configured.

    • Description – this text identifies your iPad email account. It can be anything you want it to be. Example; “Fastmetrics Email Account”.

    Step 4: Touch Next. Your iPad will begin verifying your email configuration.

    Note: If your Exchange server configuration does not support Auto Discovery, verification will fail, saying it could not validate your account. In this case, you will have to manually enter the server name.

    (For Fastmetrics email customers, the server name must be mail.fastmetrics.com, as your Mail, Contacts and Calendar information are stored on the Fastmetrics collaboration server).

    By default, the iPad will synchronize all three data types, Mail, Contacts, and Calendars, with the Exchange Active Sync server. You can turn one or more of these options off, if you wish. To do this, swipe the option you do not wish to sync, to OFF.

    Your iPad will now finalize the email iPad configuration and return you to the Mail, Contacts, Calendars menu while your iPad communicates with the server. Note that it can take a few minutes for calendar entries and contacts to show up.

    A screen may appear saying Cannot verify server identity… would you like to continue anyway?. Press Continue. In the new field Server enter mail.fastmetrics.com (or get your email host info). Then touch Next.

    • Domain: Leave blank
    • Username: Your full email address

    You might see an error message stating that the Exchange account was unable to be verified, click OK. You will then see a message that says This account may not be able to send or receive emails. Are you sure you want to continue? Select Save.

    Step 7: Select the data you want to synchronize. We recommend you to turn synchronization ON for Mail, Contacts and Calendars. Then click on Save. Note that when you choose to sync Calendars and Contacts, local Calendars and Contacts will be overwritten, you can also end up with duplicate contacts. You will receive a warning.

    Note: Wait about 10 minutes and email will begin to populate. If after 10 minutes your emails have not yet populated in your newly configured account, please power cycle the device. We hope this guide has helped you answer the question; ‘how to setup email on iPhone’.

    • Set a default account that will be used when composing new messages:
      • Go to Settings > Mail and scroll to the bottom.
      • Tap Default Account
      • Tap the account you want to use as the default when composing and replying to new messages.
    • Switch between email accounts when composing new emails:
      • Open the Mail app.
      • Press the Compose icon that looks like a paper and pencil.
      • Tap the From field.
      • Select the account you want to use by tapping it.
    • Disable an email account if you have multiple email accounts and are no longer using one or more of them:
      • Go to Settings > Mail.
      • Tap on Accounts.
      • Select the account you no longer want to use.
      • Tap the switch next to Mail to toggle it off.
      • To re-enable the account, toggle the Mail option back on. 
      • Repeat this process for any additional email accounts you want to disable.
    • Delete an email account instead of disabling it:
      • Go to Settings > Mail > Accounts.
      • Tap the account you no longer want.
      • Tap Delete Account.
      • Tap Delete From My iPhone.

    If you have more than one email account, you can learn how to add another email account to an iPhone. Add your other email accounts to your iPhone to manage all your emails from your Mail app. 

    • Go to Settings > Mail > Accounts.
    • Tap Add Account.
    • Select your provider from the list of offered providers. If you don’t see your provider, select Other.
    • If you’re adding a Google account, Yahoo, Outlook, or AOL accounts, you’ll be taken to the sign-in page in your browser. You’ll then need to sign in and grant permissions to the Mail app to manage your email.
    • If you’re using another provider, you’ll need to enter your username and password as well as the server settings. If you’re not sure what they are, ask your provider about these details.
    • If you’re adding an iCloud account, you’ll need to enter your email address and password.

    How To Set Up Email on iPhone: Outgoing Mail Server

    If you’re using an email provider like Gmail, Yahoo, or the Outlook app, your iPhone will automatically pick up the correct settings for your outgoing mail server. However, if you’re using a custom email provider, you’ll need to set up or update the outgoing mail server settings on your iPhone.

    To do this, follow the steps below:

    • Go to Settings > Mail > Accounts.
    • Tap the account you want to modify.
    • Tap Account again.
    • Under the Outgoing Mail Server section, tap on SMTP.
    • You will see a list of outgoing servers that have been configured on your iPhone.
    • Press Primary Server.
    • You’ll then be able to enter or update the information for that server. If you’re not sure what information to enter, contact your IT department or administrator for help.
